The SC and ST cell of Jagatsinghpur BJD unit on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of police headquarters here demanding justice and compensation for the Dalit people who have been victims of atrocities.
The protestors fumed that after passing of a year, the culprits involved in rape of a minor Dalit girl in Talapada village under Tirtol area are yet to be arrested. In another Dalit torture incident, one Dalit youth’s pathology had been set on fire by a few miscreants, 15 days ago in Nachhipur village under Mandasahi, but police investigation is running at a snail’s pace, the protestors said.Moreover, they lamented over many Dalit atrocity cases in different locations across Jagatsinghpur district and blamed police inaction for the rising number of cases. Former MlA Surendra Prasad Parmanik and District BJD’s SC and ST cell president Manoj Das led the agitation in which hundreds participated. later, the protestors submitted a memorandum to the district SP.
