BJD, Cong members scuffle over B'pur dev

PNS

A Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) council meeting on Thursday witnessed uproarious scenes as BJD and Congress members indulged in a verbal fight over development of the city.

The meeting was scheduled to hold discussions on as many as 19 issues. But Congress Corporators started holding discussions on tardy implementation of Rajiv Awas Yojana in the city and revenue collection.

While Congress Corporator Anil Nayak alleged that no development work has been taken up in the city despite repeated promises made by the Chief Minister, BJD Corporator G Gopal Reddy countered him. Consequently, members belonging to both the parties indulged in scuffle.

Normalcy restored after BMC Commissioner Sushant Mishra placed a proposal that a Corporators’ team led by Mayor K Madhavee would visit Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to place demands for the city’s development. Thereafter, many issues were discussed and many proposals were passed at the meeting. It was decided to increase the hoarding fee and a new tender would be invited for putting up of hoardings across the city. Besides, the council passed a proposal to increase trade licence fee.

Among others, Deputy Mayor Jyotsna Nayak, Slum Development Officer Prasant Kumar Chhotray, BMC Engineer Asim Mishra, Deputy Secretary Alekh Chandra Das, Chief Finance Officer Siva Patro and Health Officer Dr Subhakanta Das were present.
