The Birla Tyres at Chhanpur in the industrial area here, in a major decision, has dropped a plan of producing PCR (Passenger car radial) tyre, although the company was working on the project for past several years.
The company intimated this through a Press release on Saturday. “The company decided to stall the production of PCR tyre , although the project installation was in progress. There was a lot of pressure on the management from various workers’ unions. Therefore, the company decided to shelve the project,” said PRO Rajendra Senapati.
Besides, abandoning the PCR project, the Birla Tyres, a large scale tyre producing company of north Odisha, extended VRS to its employees. The release said ‘whoever would opt for VRS would be extended a compensation amount up to maximum limit `9 lakh.’
