In a joint operation, the Brahmapur Bada Bazar and Town police have identified an inter-district motorbike theft gang and arrested six persons, informed Additional Superintendent of Police Sashibhusan Satapathy to reporters here on Sunday. They also recovered 17 stolen motorcycles, he added.
The city police kept some miscreants under its radar who were suspected to be involved in theft of motor bikes in the city since last few days by tracking their mobile, sources said. The officers followed the gang members on Saturday late night and succeeded in nabbing them.
The police initially arrested three members of the gang including Manas Mallik, Mitu Mallick and Sambit Mallick. During interrogation, they reportedly disclosed about other three members of the gang, namely, Rudrakshya Panda, Pabitra Das and Jhulu Maharana. The police nabbed the culprits.
“We would take the accused on remand for further interrogation if required,” Satapathy said.
