Senor BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra on Thursday urged the State Government to sympathetically consider the grievances of the Phailin and flood victims of Ganjam district instead of threatening them with police action.
He was talking to reporters at Chhatrapur after visiting many places of the district. He said he received a number of complaints about the partisan role of the Revenue Department officials. Even after so many days of the calamities, senior revenue officers have not visited the affected area to assess the house and crop damages, he said.
While referring to the miserable condition of some of the victims of the slum areas of Brahmapur, particularly, Gajapati Nagar, Neelachal Nagar, Basudev Nagar, Tulasi Nagar and Medical Colony and Bhavinipur GP, Ankuli, lanjipalli, he said Mohapatra said that during the incessant rains the residents of these areas had to spend their life in three feet of water without any timely Government assistance like polythene, Chuda and kerosene on the mere pretext that they are residents of urban areas.
The so-called speed of the rescue and relief operations for the victims of Brahmapur is evident from the fact that even after three weeks of the calamities, the Government has been able to restore power only to the extent of 50 per cent in the city, he said.
