Bhusan Steel limited (BSl) is setting up an integrated township in the vicinity of its project at Meramundali in Dhenkanal district with an ultramodern super specialty 500-bed hospital and other social infrastructure to cater to the needs of the local residents.

Formerly known as Bhushan Steel & Strips limited, BSl is globally renowned as a leading player in the steel industry. With Niraj Singhal at its helm of affairs as Managing Director, BSl is chalking out massive plans under its CSR programme for peripheral development, said sources in BSl.

Singhal has asked his officials to be in touch with the State-run Idco for land acquisition, which is needed for setting up of these social infrastructures. Idco officials are supporting BSl in a big way and the district administration is extending all-out support of the steel major.

The township would have an engineering college, a recreation club and residential facilities. The company is also setting up a Bhushan SME Steel Park to develop downstream and ancillary units.

To cater to the needs of BSl and other industries in and around Dhenkanal and adjoining district of Angul, the company is also setting up a commercial airport at Arahata in Angul district.

BSl’s Odisha plant has commissioned a capacity of 3.0 MTPY and is now in an expansion mode of 6.0 MTPY expected to be commissioned in 2013. BSl, which has employed about 20,000 employees, both directly and indirectly, has made a capital investment of Rs 25,000 crore. Its turnover during 2012-13 was recorded at Rs 11,800 crore.

Besides setting up a 12-MTPY iron ore beneficiation plant in Keonjhar district, BSl will also lay a 138-km iron ore slurry pipeline from Nayagarh to Meramandali. It will also set up a 4.0-MTPY pelletisation plant at Jalpaposi in Keonjhar.

For environmental reasons, BSl is laying a pipeline from the Meramandali plant to the Jagannath Coalmine Void for ash slurry disposal.

BSl is also setting up a 2,000-MW thermal power plant at Ghantigadia in Angul district with a capital investment of Rs 8,600 crore by associate company Bhushan Energy limited, for which it has signed an MoU with the State Government and land acquisition is in progress.
