Cuttack BJD Lok Sabha member Bhartruhari Mahtab has landed in a trouble after his daughter-in-law Sakshi Mahtab has levelled dowry allegations against him and his wife and son at the Bhopal Mahila police station.

Based on the allegation, the Bhopal police on August 17 registered an FIR against Bhartruhari Mahtab, his wife Maheswata Mahtab and son Lokranjan Mahtab under Sections 498 (a) (subjecting a woman to cruelty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

As per the complaint, Sakshi (34), a resident of the Mahadev Parisar locality in Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh, had married Lokranjan Mahtab in December 2016. She has alleged that her husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law took Rs 1.5 crore as dowry in 2016.

After a few days of marriage, her husband and in-laws started harassing her demanding more money. Later, she was thrown out of the house. Bhartruhari Mahtab’s reaction to the charges was yet to be ascertained.
