An under-trial prisoner (UTP) died in the District Headquarters Hospital here on Monday morning.The deceased was Debadatta Barik of Pahana village under the Dhusuri police station in Bhadrak district.
According to Bhadrak Special Sub-Jail Jailor Sunaram Singh, Barik had been remanded to the jail on February 23 on the charge of stealing valuables from the Hundi at the Akhandalamani Shiva temple.
“During his stay inside the jail, his behaviour was normal. He used to attend the morning prayers regularly and never had any complaint. But today he came to me in the morning and said he was feeling uneasy. I took him to the jail doctor for a checkup. As per the advice of the doctor, we sent him to the district hospital where the doctors gave him medicines after checkup. But he died after some time,” Singh said.
He further informed that he has informed the family members of the deceased. “I have also informed my higher authorities and sent two jail staffs to the native place of the deceased,” he added.
