A delegation of the Gandhinagar Senior Citizens’ Forum led by its president Prof KC Panda submitted a memorandum to the BeMC Commissioner here on Monday drawing his attention to various development and sanitation issues in their locality. Some of the long pending genuine problems though appear to be tiny in nature, but are crucial to impact the health and hygiene of the local residents who are mostly senior citizens, the memorandum pointed out.
The drain and sanitation system in the area is in a pathetic state, it lamented. The key problems cited were renovation/repairing of the drain of the Gandhinagar 3rd Line extension; cementing of the road; plantation on both sides of road for beautification; display of a “senior citizen zone” bay-guide/sign board at the entry-point of the street; action on the residents and builders who use public road as cowshed and who have closed BeMC public drain for personal use; tackling stray dog and mosquito menace in the area and regular cleaning of all the drains and removal of solid wastes, etc. The Forum requested the BeMC Commissioner to address the problems on priority as most of these issues do not involve huge fiscal implications, but need strong administrative orders and supervision.
Even though the local residents have requested the BeMC several times to address these issues, but their demand remains unheeded, the memorandum pointed out.
