BEd teachers demand security

PNS

The State BEd Sikshya Sahayak Sangha has strongly condemned the recent brutal attack on Suchismita Muduli, a woman teacher of the Ambapada Primary School in Nialli block of Cuttack district.

The Sangha while terming the incident as highly unfortunate blamed the Government’s indifferent attitude towards the teachers being targeted by miscreants.

In more than 90 per cent of the schools, there are no boundary walls and gates, due to which antisocial elements are barging into classrooms during school hours and harassing and abusing teachers.

The teachers are feeling insecure in the schools. At night, feasts are being held by antisocial elements in the school premises with liquor and meat being consumed, the Sangha said.

Taking these into consideration, the Government must immediately take measures to construct boundary walls so that both teachers and students would feel safe and proper academic atmosphere would be maintained, the teachers’ body stated.

The Sangha demanded a high-level probe into the Niali incident and stringent punishment to the accused involved in the attack. It also demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim.

The teachers’ association also demanded that the Government pay salaries in time and regularise the jobs of the Sikshya Sahayaks, who have completed six years of their contract.

Otherwise, the teachers would be forced to take to the streets, said Sangha vice-president Saroj Kumar Panda.
