Dead body of a female wild bear was found in the jungle near Andramunda village under Sargiguda Gram Panchayat of Kotpad block area. The villagers first detected the body.
The cause of the death is still not known. Villagers alleged that it happened due to negligence by the forest department in protecting the wild animals.
Sources said that on June 3 last, while a meeting was being conducted by the Vana Surakhya Samiti (VSS) in Andramunda village in the presence of forest officers, three wild bears were found nearby the meeting. One wild female bear was found to be furious and started attacking three persons. It is suspected that the deceased bear might be the same which had attacked the villagers. It might have been killed by the villagers out of vengeance and anger.
Being informed the incident the officials of forest department rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body. A team of forest department also rushed into the jungle with tranquilizer but could not detect the other bears.
