BJP State president Basant Panda was threatened by two youths at gunpoint at the party office here on Monday.

The duo, identified as Pinak Mohanty and Sambit Panda, of the Barang area, who claimed themselves as BJP workers, entered the office and threatened Basant Panda showing him two guns. However, speaking to mediapersons, one of them said that they held toy guns.

Police soon detained the two for interrogation and later arrested them.

In his reaction, Basant Panda said, “The two youths had come to the office yesterday seeking help for treatment of one of their relatives. I had told them to come with concerned documents. However, they came today and threatened me with two guns without holding any discussion about the help they had sought earlier.”

Panda also said that the two are not BJP workers. Someone might have staged the whole drama intentionally, he added. City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said the police were trying to ascertain the intention of the youths to threaten Panda.
