Baripada Mudhi, the popular food item of this region, is likely to obtain GI (Geographical Indication) tag soon. This possibility has brought cheers in different circles of Mayurbhanj district.
According to reliable sources, State Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Science and Technology Suresh Kumar Vasisth has on August 24 written a letter to Mayurbhanj Collector Vineet Bharadwaj to provide relevant information for Baripada Mudhi's GI registration. This is believed to be the beginning of a concrete process towards Baripada Mudhi's getting GI tag.
Some, however, opine that it would be better if it is described as ‘Mayurbhanj Mudhi’ instead of Baripada Mudhi.
Baripada is very much known for its "Mudhi Mansa" (Mudhi mixed with meat) all over the State.
