Police on Tuesday arrested a couple on the charge of indulging in chit fund activities under the
cover of an advertisement agency in Mayurbhanj district.
“The police arrested Sujata Das and her husband Bharat Chandra Das, a Central Government officer, on the charge of running chit fund activities,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Baripada, Suresh Chandra Jena.
Police said the couple was running an agency in the name of Sunray Advertisement at Bagda Road here. Though Sujata was officiating as the director of the agency, Bharat was operating the agency. The police arrested the Das couple while their son Abhisek is absconding, Jena said.
Based on the complaint of a man, the police registered a case against the couple, Jena said, adding that the agency received deposits worth Rs 1 crore after luring the investors of doubling the amount in two years.
