Barbil truck owners want transport cost hike

PNS

The Barbil Truck Owners' Association has demanded for a hike in transporting charge of ore from Barbil to Paradip.

While the transporting charge for iron ore from Jagannath Steel situated near Barbil to Paradip is Rs 1,600 per ton since 1990, now due to rise in price of petrol and diesel, the transporters find it very difficult to continue with the same cost.

In this regard, they earlier had brought their problems to the notice of the company authority many times but without any result. On June 16, a team led by association president Vikash Sarowagi submitted a memorandum to vice- president, Jagannath Steel, Sumanta Kumar Dhala.

They threatened to stop transporting from the plant if the current transporting rate was not revised by June 21.

Association VP Dilu Swami, general secretary Chandra Gupta Prasad among others were present in the team.
