Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra on Saturday incurred wrath of lawyers for supporting the recommendations of the law Commission of India (lCI) on the Advocates’ (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
Tension gripped the national conference organised at a hotel here to discuss the provisions of the Advocates’ (Amendment) Bill 2017 with lawyers vehemently opposing Mishra’s views.
Chaos prevailed soon after Mishra was about to deliver his speech in support of the recommendations of the law Commission of India regarding fresh amendments to the Advocates’ Act 1961. He was virtually thrown out of the conference hall by the irate lawyers.
Mishra, on his part, said, “The Bar Council of India will never allow any kind of hooliganism.”
Notably, the Odisha State Bar Council and other lawyers’ associations across the country are against the Advocates’ (Amendment) Bill, 2017 as they claim that it would destroy the independence and autonomy of the Indian Bar completely.
As per the recommendations made by the law Commission of India to the Union Government, stringent action has to be taken against lawyers for misconduct and resorting to strikes.
More than 300 lawyers and other delegates from 17 States had congregated here to participate in the national conference organised by the Odisha State Bar Council.
