A bank manager was imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Sundargarh district on Saturday for engaging a child as domestic help in his house. Sources said the Childline authorities had received a complaint against one Anchal Verma, who works as a branch manager in a commercial bank of the city, following which they had conducted a raid in his house and recovered a seven year old girl from there.

The recovered girl is from Jharkhand. Besides intimating her parents, the girl was placed before the members of the CWC on Saturday, where the branch manager reportedly had claimed that the girl is one of his relatives’ daughter but the CWC members did not accept his plea and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.  The victim girl was kept in Childline and will be handed over to her family members.

“A fine amount of Rs 15,000 was imposed on Anchal Verma, with a direction to deposit the fine amount as a fixed deposit in the name of the victim girl,” said CWC member Pradeep Mishra. “The fixed deposit would be available in the bank till the victim girl becomes a major,” Mishra added.
