Even six days after of the gangrape of the minor tribal girl at Kunduli in the district, mystery still shrouds the case. Though the police teams assisted by the State Crime Branch (CB) have conducted extensive investigations, they are yet to make any disclosures regarding the case.
On Sunday, the CB team returned to the police headquarters.
Meanwhile, as announced earlier, the Koraput district Congress would hold a seven-hour bandh from 6 am to 1 pm on Monday. Jeypore MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati said they would hold a peaceful demonstration and unlike the BJD cadres who assaulted people during their bandh, they would ask the people to cooperate in the shutdown. All Government and private institutions, banks and educational institutions would remain closed, said Bahinipati.
The district BJP also said they would support the bandh as it demands arrest of the culprits and justice for the victim. However, BJD leader Rabi Naryan Nanda said the unfortunate incident is highly sensitive, but it should not be politicised.
Maoists who have denied the incident to be their act have also called for a shutdown on the day.
Meanwhile, a five-member team of the BJD’s Scheduled Caste Cell left for Koraput to meet the rape survivor and her family. After the visit, a report would be submitted to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, informed cell president Bishnu Das in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Das said, “A girl was gangraped in Kunduli block under Patangi in Koraput district by five miscreants in combat fatigues after forcibly dragging her into the forest.
The victim is fighting for her life now. The BJD’s Scheduled Caste cell will never tolerate this type of inhumanity. The team will visit the victim and inquire about her health condition. The team will also meet the team of special doctors and CDMO there.”
