An eight-hour bandh was held in the district on Wednesday, excluding the poll-bound Patkura area, over the firing at a businessman at Tinimuhani Chhack on July 13 night by unidentified assailants.
The bandh was called by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Kendrapara Traders’ Association and Tinimuhani Puja Committee. The members of the associations blocked roads at various places in Kendrapada town in the morning disrupting vehicular movement.
Most of the shops and business establishments remained closed due to the shutdown. Keeping the bandh in mind adequate police forces were deployed but there are no reports of any untoward incidents.
The agitators demanded the arrest of those involved in the firing incident. Two unidentified bike-borne miscreants had opened fire at Tinimuhani Bazaar Committee President Vivekananda Moharana near Gulnagar bridge on July 13 night while he was returning home on a motorcycle.
The accused are yet to be apprehended, though the police had said they would be nabbed soon.
