A 12-hour bandh was observed in Bamanghati subdivision of Mayurbhanj district on Monday in support of the demand of according district status to the district’s Rairangpur region.
The Rairangpur Kriyanusthan Committee had given the bandh call. While shops, business establishments, offices and educational institutions remained closed, vehicular movement was reduced due to the bandh.
Members of the committee were seen picketing at various places. The agitators also staged rail roko at the Rairangpur railway station, affecting movement of trains.
However, emergency services were excluded from the ambit of the bandh.
Several associations of traders, lawyers, drivers and citizens extended support to the bandh call.
