The Odisha bandh call given by the Congress and the BJP evoked total response and affected normal life in Baleswar district on Wednesday.
While schools, colleges and other educational institutions were closed, most of the business establishments downed their shutters. The Government offices and courts, though open, couldn’t function normally.
The buses and transporting vehicles were off the roads. The banks, post-offices and BSNl offices too were closed. However, the trains ran as per their schedules. The Defence establishments had advanced their reporting times.
Picketing was witnessed by the agitators at the major squares of the town. The essential service shops and establishments, however, were seen open.
