Khordha district’s Balugaon NAC Octrai tax collector Biplab Ranjan Swain, posted in the Accounts Section of NAC, was arrested by Vigilance officials on Wednesday for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs7,000. Swain had demanded the bribe from one Mohan Kumar Sahoo of Patana Nauri Sahi at Balugaon in Khordha district to pass the pending bill.
Mohan Kumar Sahoo, a ‘C’ class contractor alleged that he was given for construction of a drain at Gandhi Nagar in Balugaon with cost of Rs2, 99,355.
After completion of work the JE had measured the work and submitted bill to the Executive Officer. As bribe was demanded, he complained to Vigilance SP. On Sahoo’s complaint, a trap was laid Swain was caught red-handed by Vigilance officers at his office.
