Meet DM, threaten stir
The truck owners under the banner Balasore Truck Coordination Committee (BTCC) on Sunday threatened to resort to an agitation against Balasore Alloys’ decision of transporting materials through goods trains instead of local trucks.
Informing that nearly 800 trucks are engaged in the company for transporting materials to different destinations, the BTCC alleged that the company management will violate the agreement with the truck owners which mandates the company to hire their trucks for transportation purposes.
“The decision to switch over to rail transport will adversely impact our income. The truck owners won’t be able to pay the installments against the loan they availed from banks to buy the trucks. Besides, the drivers and labourers will suffer a lot,” lamented Balasore Truck Coordination Committee (BTCC) chairman Ajay Biswal.
Stating that the association has already brought the company’s decision to the notice of the district Collector, Biswal said, “If the company doesn’t revoke the decision, we will be forced to resort to an agitation.”
While contacted, Balasore Alloys public relations officer (PRO) Sanjay Acharay clarified that the transportation through rail means would be cost effective.
“The recipient companies want that the material dispatched from here be delivered by rail. Considering the benefits of ours and the recipient firms, the management has taken the decision,” he argued.
