Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested a Data Entry Operator (DEO) working in the Development and Handicapped Section in Balangir CDMO office for taking `10,000 as bribe to issue a physically-handicapped certificate.
One Tapan Herna of Swadhinpara under Balangir district’s Titilagarh police station had lodged a complaint alleging that DEO Debaraj Kumar Giri had asked him to pay the bribe so that he would induce the Orthopedic Medical Officer to issue the certificate in his name showing more than 50 per cent disability. Accordingly, the Vigilance officers laid a trap and caught Giri red-handed while accepting the bribe from Herna.
