Farmers of Balanga area demand supply of canal water in all canals of the Water Resources Department in the area.
Due to scanty rains, the farmers are facing problems to cultivate paddy seedlings.
Every year, the department releases canal water in Chandanpur branch and Nuagaon canal in the month of June. This year due to construction work in some canals, the department has not supplied water in the canal even in the month of July.
Farmers of Balipatana, Nimapada, Satyabadi and Puri Sadar blocks depend on the Chandanpur branch canal water for agricultural work. Farmers allege that due to a secret understanding between contractors and Water Resources Department officials, the canal water supply has not started.
The farmers have warned that if canal water is not released within two to three days, they would stage agitation in front of the department’s Balanga office.
