Bajrang activists block K'pada road

The Bajrang Dal staged a road blockade at Kansar chowk on the 12-km Gandakhia-Santasahi RD road in Kendrapada district demanding immediate repair of the road on Friday.

“Accidents are occurring frequently as the busy road has been completely damaged. The district administration has failed to repair the road despite repeated demands,” said Bajrang Dal activists.

On August 12, about 50 activists of the outfit had met district administration officials and demanded repair of the road within a week. The officials also assured them of starting the repair work at the earliest.

On Thursday, a 21-year-old youth, Umakanta lenka, of Endor village died and another youth sustained critical injuries in an accident on the road.

Angry over the lackadaisical attitude, Dal activists blocked the road by burning tyres and erecting a bamboo barricade. As a result, vehicular traffic was disrupted for hours.

They withdrew the stir only after Kendrapada Tesildar Pravas Beura assured them that the repair work would begin within couple of days.

It may be noted that earlier BJP activists led by Kendrapada district president Sukanta Dwibedy had on June 1 staged a road blockade   at Ayeba chowk with the same demand. The Tehsildar had also assured then that the repair work would begin in 10 days.
