A social  and political activist of Baleswar town is  earning  applause from various quarters for his noble job which could bring soulful cheers on the faces of some orphans.

Bikram Panda, taking  cue from the district administration of Gajapati district, on Monday, took 15 children including five girls  of an orphanage  located on the outskirts of town along with the staff  to a  prominent shopping mall and urged  them to choose dresses of their choice. And after purchasing dresses,  he took them to a restaurant and offered  them lunch of their choice. These children were ferried to the town by the conveyance provided by Panda. The children were  very happy to get dresses and foods.

“People come to our home  and donate generous foods as well as dresses  but in this case Panda gave us the freedom to choose the things as per our  choices. This  was a unique  and unforgettable experience. We are highly  thankful  to him,” the children said. The inmates of the orphanage, 'Karuna Gouri’  located near Fuladi were ferried by Panda to the town.

“In fact it was inspired  by watching the district Collector, Gajapati. He had given dresses to the children of a distressed home. So, I thought to  extend a similar gesture to the children of  this orphanage,” said Panda. He said that the expenditure was around Rs 16,000.

He further said those who have money should spend at least 5 to 10 per cent of their income  for these kinds of people in distress.

Notably, Panda is involved in several social and philanthropic activities and he is also a member of an organisation which is building an old age home on the outskirts of the town.
