The Sahadevakhunta police on Monday arrested the main accused involved in the murder of trucker Manas Das on September 1. The arrestee was identified as Samsan Mahapatra of Chandmaripadia.
Earlier, police had formed special teams to track him. The police said he was hiding in Ghasipura in Keonjar district before they nabbed him. Police seized one country made pistol, two live cartridges and a scooty from his possession.
Samsan had allegedly planned the murder of Manas as he was inciting the former’s wife to desert him. Earlier three miscreants, Prasant Behera, Raju Singh and Lapa Tudu were arrested in the connection with the case. On the fateful day, Manas was opening the gate of his house when the assailants opened fire at him. He died on the spot after two bullets hit him on the chest. Sahadevkhunta police station IIC Jayanat Behera said two more associates of the accused were still at large.
