B’swar-Nilgiri passenger train project moves slow

Ubachak Mohanty

A rail project for passenger train movement between Baleswar and Nilgiri is moving at a snail’s pace as a promise made by the Railway Minister of completing it within three months has missed the deadline.

There is tardy progress on the project works and the residents of Nilgiri are apprehensive about the fulfillment of their long standing demand.

Notably, Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during laying of foundation stone for the rail project on January 7 had told that he had personally spoken to the Prime Minister about the project which was neglected for years and the latter instantly approved it after consulting with Baleswar MP Pratap Sarangi.

Vaishnaw had assured that the project would be completed within three months and further he would be travelling in the train on the inaugural day.

It also may be noted that presently only goods trains are plying on the rail line existing between Baleswar and Nilgiri. However, the passenger rail linkage would benefit the people, mainly the tribal populace of Nilgiri and Oupada area.  It will give a boost to the trade and commerce activities besides facilitating travel for medical treatment and education.
