Rajya Sabha member and Bhasha Suraksha Sammilani president Baishnab Parida on Saturday welcomed the State Government’s decision to use Odia as official language.

“The people were unhappy as the Odisha Official language Act was not amended in the State Assembly for use of Odia as official language. But the Chief Minister has created new hopes among people by announcing a time limit,” Parida said.

He too hailed the decision to open Odia Chairs at various universities, including the Jawaharlal Nehru University, in the country. However, Parida said the Sammilani would continue holding awareness campaigns until the Odisha Official language Act is implemented and its 10 other demands are fulfilled.

The Sammilani also demanded that adequate Odia teachers be appointed in schools, colleges and universities for uninterrupted teaching of the language.
