Awareness drive held in Bhadrak leprosy colony

PNS

On the Rath Yatra, a kidney and corona awareness camp and water filter distribution were organised in Dagamunda Leprosy Colony under Randia panchayat of Bhadrak district.

In the camp, a discussion and awareness drive was made on kidney ailments and corona pandemic. The need and importance of safe drinking water and how to preserve water were also discussed. It is pertinent to mention here that, more than 25 years ago, the colony was started with a few leprosy patients without bare necessities of life and the inhabitants lived in miserable conditions.

Activist Radhakanta Tripathy took initiatives to place different issues of the colony before the Government and the National Human Rights Commission. After that, the district administration became active to resolve many of the issues along with establishing an Upper Primary School and an Anganwadi center. However, there are certain other issues which are yet to be solved. The families of the colony got one water filter each and the beneficiaries promised to keep the environment clean. Among others, teacher Niranjan Sethi, Rashmita Das and JCO Tapan Bedi were present.
