The State Government on Wednesday announced a huge increase in the amount of cash award for the sportspersons who have earned name in international sporting events.
In a Press release, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the Govt would give double the amount that the Central Govt gives to sportspersons who win gold, silver and bronze medals in Olympic events. He said any sportsperson of the State winning a gold medal in such competitions would be given a cash award of Rs1 crore against the Central Govt’s Rs50 lakh.Similarly, silver and bronze medalists would be givenRs60 lakh and Rs40 lakh against the Central Govt’s Rs30 lakh and Rs20 lakh, respectively.
