A case has been filed against those accused in the incident of mercilessly beating five women alleging that they were practising witchcraft that reportedly took lives of four kids in three months in the Badasahi area of Mayurbhanj district.
The accused villagers of Madhupur village would be arrested soon, said a police official on Monday.
The villagers tied the women to a tree before thrashing them black and blue.
According to reports, the villagers first attacked a person, identified as Shiv Singh, who named the five women, over the death of four children in the past three months in the village. In a Kangaroo court, the villagers decided to teach a lesson to the women for “practising black magic”. A written complaint was lodged by Shiv Singh with the Badasahi police, but he has been absconding following the complaint.
The incident had occurred on October 22 at Madhupur, where Shiv Singh was also beaten up over suspicion of witchcraft. The video of the beating up of the women came to limelight on Sunday.
