Blistering heat wave continues to sweep Jharsuguda district with mercury hovering around 43.2 degree Celsius on Sunday.
The heat coupled with unscheduled power cuts and erratic water supply has thrown life out of gear although the power situation is much better than the previous year.
In particular, coal belt areas such as Brajrajnagar, Belpahar and Bandhbahal towns are reportedly recording at least two to three degrees more than that of other areas.
The situation is worse in Brajarajnagar, Belpahar and Jharsuguda towns where the residents are also facing acute shortage of drinking water.
Business has been severely hit by the scorching heat as normal movement on roads resumes only after sunset. Caps, scarves, shades and gamchhas are back in vogue as commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, keep their faces and eyes covered to save themselves from scorching heat.
Special arrangements were made in Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital to deal with sunstroke cases.
However, not a single case of sunstroke death has been reported so far.
