: Several aspirants have lodged a complaint with the Jaleswar police in Baleswar district alleging that they were duped by a fraudster on pretext of jobs in the railways.

The complainants alleged that one Prasant Kumar Jena of Nangurasahi allegedly siphoned about Rs 30 lakh from at least seven job-seekers. The police after registering a case have begun a probe into the allegations.

According to a complainant, Manas Kumar Jena of village Dhundkut under the Singla police station when he was desperate for a job after passing diploma, he came in contact with Prasant who assured him a job in the railways against Rs 4 lakh.

The accused had allegedly told the victim that he would get him a job as his brother who was working in the railways has contacts with high officials.   The complainant alleged that initially he paid Rs 50,000 cash and subsequently Rs 15,000 through UPI and rest in cash.

After three months of payment the accused gave him a fake railway identity card yet he was not given an appointment letter. Suspecting foul play, when the complainant demanded refund of money the accused gave him a cheque of Rs 65,000 which bounced.

After realising that he has been deceived by the accused, Manas lodged a complaint with police. Similar complaints were also lodged by other victims who too were duped by the fraudster, reports said.
