ASI's steel framing of Jagamohan pockets from Sept 6

PNS

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) would begin steel framing of pockets of the Jagamohan, the prayer hall facing the sanctum sanctorum of the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri, from September 6.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting attended by ASI Joint Director General (DG) Janhavi Sharma, ASI Core Committee Chairman GC Mitra and officials of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) here on Thursday.

Two days back, the ASI had filed an affidavit at the Orissa High Court admitting that there has been no substantial progress in the repair of the main structure of Jagamohan.

In the affidavit, the ASI said that while a part of the repair work of the pillars of the main structure has been completed, it had asked the temple administration to supply necessary materials and equipments to undertake the repair of the remaining pillars.

The ASI also informed the court that it is yet to receive the final designs for repair of the remaining pillars from the IIT, Madras.
