Apathy to burn victim: BJP to move NHRC

PNS

The BJP has decided to knock on the doors of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the Government’s apathy that caused the death of Kendrapada burn victim Sujata Bairagi.

Party’s national general secretary and MP Dharmendra Pradhan slammed the State Government for its insensitivity in taking care of the minor Mahakalpada girl who died due to gross neglect in treatment. lamenting that Odisha has never seen such an inefficient and insensitive Government, Pradhan said the BJP would reach to the people to sensitize against the corrupt Government.

Criticising the State Government for its utter failure in providing security to women, Pradhan said that the BJP would submit a petition before the NHRC against the apathy and insensitivity in providing proper and timely treatment to the Dalit girl who was allegedly gangraped and later set on fire in Mahakalpada block in Kendrapada and was later undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack in critical condition.

Joining Pradhan, State BJP president KV Singh Deo also slammed the State Government for its neglect and announced that the party would continue its struggle. “We would not limit our agitation against the BJD Government to the capital city here. The BJP would continue to intensify its agitation against the all-round failure of the Government and highlight its omissions and commission, particularly the deteriorating law and order situation and increasing crimes against women,” said Singh Deo.

Singh Deo along with Pradhan and State general secretary and former Minister Manmohan Samal led a protest rally in the capital city here on Saturday and appealed people to join their peaceful hartal. They also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister Damodar Rout.  Police arrested the leaders and several other party activists at the PMG Square for violating the prohibitory orders. Singh Deo said people of the State would hit the streets to overthrow the corrupt and inept Government of Naveen Patnaik. Describing his party’s 12-hour hartal as total, the BJD chief congratulated the people of State for extending their support to the stir.
