A meeting of the Bhubaneswar Upakhand Bikash Manch was held on Sunday. It was attended by apartment dwellers of the BMC area covering Sundarpada up to Padhan Sahi.
Manch president Bimbadhar Sahoo chaired the meeting. Secretary general Rajanikant Samantray briefed the burning problems of the inhabitants. Members, presidents and secretaries of 17 apartments expressed their discontent due to the inordinate delay for widening of the Sundarpada-Jatni road. It was unanimously resolved to give a grievance letter to the Chief Minister to accelerate the long-pending construction work. It was also decided to boycott the elections if the work is not completed in due time.
Although retired engineers, doctors, police and administrative personnel, Government officials, teachers, bank people, etc., had purchased residential flats in proximity to Bhubaneswar city, they have been leading wretched lives owing to lack of basic amenities. This area has become a hub of deathtraps due to illegal constructions, forceful encroachment of road, free access of fast-moving vehicles, cattle, etc. Attention has been drawn repeatedly for widening of road, drainage system and streetlight, but the Government has turned a deaf ear to the demands.
A team of 21 office-bearers of the Manch was nominated for three years to work for all-round development of the area. Prof BK Mohanty was nominated as chairman of the Manch and Gitarani Panda as secretary, Women Cell.
