The process of land acquisition for the Posco steel project was discontinued on Sunday, but the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) organised a protest meeting near at Patana village which was presided over by PPSS secretary Sisir Kumar Mohapatra.
The meeting was attended by CPI leader Narayan Reddy, Samajwadi Party leader Arun Jena and Tapasi Praharaj of the CPI(M).
They questioned how the State is forcibly occupying lands violating the law when the new regulations formulated by the Central Government for land acquisition are in force.
Narayan Reddy appealed to the Chief Minister to stop land acquisition for the Posco project and also threatened of stopping land acquisition from Monday with the help of all opposition political parties.
On the other hand, Jagatsinghpur district Collector SK Mallick stated that the land acquisition process, which would be resumed on Monday, is in its last phase and completed in two to three days.
