Close on the heels of the arrest of a police constable from Angul for allegedly ditching a girl in Sundargarh after making her pregnant recently, another constable in the Reserve police in the district was evading arrest for committing a similar crime.
Sources said Gobadharn Patra is as a police constable in the reserve police here. He is a bachelor and was in contact with 20-year-old Sili (name changed) for some time. Gobadharn first befriended with Sili and later lured her by offering a marriage proposal. He kept maintaining physical relationship with the girl. On November 5 last, Gobadharn married Sili in a temple near Bondhamunda.
But thereafter Gobadharn stopped visiting Sili’s house. When Sili tried to contact him, Gobadharn did not respond to her. Finding no other alternative, Sili filed an FIR in the Mahila police station here against Gobadharn on November 7. Rourkela Mahila police registered a case but could not arrest Gobardhan who is now at large.
Meanwhile, acting on the report of Rourkela Mahila police station, the salary payment of Gobadharn has been stopped. If he did not surrender, he might face suspension from his service, said sources.
