Another debt-ridden farmer has allegedly committed suicide in Subarnapur district due to crop failure and inability to repay the loan he had taken from private moneylenders for agriculture purpose.
Ashwini Bhoi, a resident of Guduguda village under Bahalpadar gram panchayat in Biramaharajpur block, died on Thursday. He had consumed poison on Wednesday night and was admitted at the Biramaharajpur hospital in a critical condition. Ashwini’s father Champeswar Bhoi said his son had cultivated paddy after taking loan from local moneylenders.
“After crops were damaged due to scanty rainfall, he was in deep mental stress. Seeing no alternative to repay the loan, he had consumed poison,” said Champeswar.
Ashwini’s uncle Bimbadhar Bhoi urged the administration for support as the family now has no young member to earn bread and butter for it.
Ashwini is survived by two small daughters, wife and father.
