A criminal, who was involved in series of a series of bomb blast cases that were giving tizzy to the Badambadi police in particular for past several months, was injured and arrested in an encounter with city police on Tuesday.. This was the fifth police encounter in the city during last seven months.

Following a tipoff, the Badamabadi police in the wee hours of the day raided an isolated place, where two dreaded criminals assembled to attack a nearby petrol pump located close to the Badamabadi bus terminus with bombs.

“While police intercepted the duo, one Pinaki Barik, alias Khokan, opened fire at the police and tried to escape from the spot. Exercising his right of defence, the Badamabadi police inspector made a controlled fire leaving Khokan injured,” said city DCP Akhileswar Singh.

The DCP said that Khokan confessed to his involvement in the recent series bomb blast cases at the bus stand. A country-made pistol and two live bombs were seized from his possession. The police had also injured another dreaded criminal of the area in an encounter last month.

“It has been ascertained that due to frustration after banning hawking system at the bus stop, the bombing cases were committed by the local goons to create an atmosphere of panic in the locality and to show the police in poor light,” the DCP disclosed.
