The laxmipur police of Koraput district on Thursday arrested another Armed Police Reserve (APR) Constable and produced him before court for his alleged involvement in illegal ganja smuggling.
Sources said around 865 kg of ganja had been seized from a truck at lamptaput of the district while the contraband was being smuggled to Uttar Pradesh.
The laxmipur police had arrested the helper of the truck and APR Constable Bhagban Khila, a resident of Bandaguda village under the Koraput Sadar police station, in this connection.
However, the truck driver had managed to escape, leaving the vehicle on the spot.
On Thursday, the cops arrested another APR Constable, Harekrishna Chetty, in connection with the incident.
The laxmipur SDPO said both the arrested APR Constables were actively involved in the illegal ganja smuggling and action would be taken against them accordingly.
It may be mentioned that laxmipur police station IIC Jagannath Acharya has been suspended from his job for helping the truck driver escape.
