AMOFOI couple B Ramchandra CST Voltaire and Madam Swapna Bijayini had married in a simplest way by exchange of garlands and rings through a public meeting organised at N Guha Lane of Sambalpur way back in 1974.
A good number of friends and college teachers including Dr Gadadhar Mishra, the then Principal of GM College attended the marriage function of Voltaire. The marriage was aimed at social reform, intended to annihilate the caste system.
On their 45th marriage anniversary, the AMOFOI organised similar unconventional marriages of two couples this week.
Two pairs of lovers namely, MD Razzak and Ghazala Begum, both from Motijharan area under Dhanupalli police station of
Sambalpur and K Siva Sankar and Shivani Nayak from Bissam Cuttack police limits of Rayagada district had their love marriage in the way Voltaire and Bijayini married 45 years back.
FPI president Dr Bijayananda Kar, vice-president Harish Chandra Kar and other functionaries of the FPI and of the AMOFOI were present.
