BJP national president Amit Shah arrived in Odisha late on Monday night on a three-day visit to the State for the party’s ‘Mo Booth Sabuthu Majboot’ programme to strengthen the party base in the State.
Shah was warmly received at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here by Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram and other State party leaders.
He then went to the State Guest House, where he spent the night and headed for Ganjam on Tuesday morning for party programmes.
Shah had a brief halt at Khordha on the way to Ganjam and paid floral tributes to the great warriors of the Paika Rebellion who fought against the East India Company’s rule in Odisha in 1817. He also garlanded a statue of Buxi Jagabandhu.
“The great “Paik Rebellion” was led by Buxi Jagabandhu “Paika Buxi” projecting lord Jagannath as the symbol of Odia unity,” Shah tweeted.
“When the East India Company started tinkering with the revenue system in 1803, the farming community of Odisha rose in rebellion,” he said in another tweet.
