'Alternative fuels can save environment'

PNS

Experts here strongly batted for massive use of alternative fuel sources of fossil fuels for automobiles such as electric, solar, bio and battery, which can reduce impact on human health and environment, while speaking at a seminar organised by the Orissa Environment Society (OES).

The Government should come forward to embrace the ‘Zero emission’ principle and formulate policy for encouraging the alternative sources of fuels and the green transport system, they said, while deliberating on the topic entitled, ‘Green Transport: Prospects in Odisha.’

President of the society Dr Sundar Narayan Patro presided. The chief guest of the occasion was Dr Dillip Ray, Joint Director, Panchayati Raj Department, Odisha and a transport expert, who presented a detailed picture of the transport sector of Odisha.

He opined that the development of infrastructure such as roads, railways and waterways is as important as the adoption of advanced technologies and alternative fuel sources and making the mass transport system more popular.

Society secretary Dr Jaya Krushna Panigrahi narrated the evolution of the transport system and the significance of the green transport system at the present juncture in the scenario of growing environmental challenges.

A number of experts participated. Prof B Sitaram Patro presented a vote of thanks.
