Allow us to practice allopathy: Ayush docs

PNS

In view of a statement of Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad in the lok Sabha asking the State Governments to consider the demand of allowing Ayush doctors to practice allopathy, the Odisha Ayush Doctors’ Association has demanded immediate Government measures here.

Association general secretary Tapan Kumar Dash said, “Allowing Ayush practitioners to legally take up allopathy practice will not only help in curbing quackery but also ensure that people in rural areas get timely treatment.”

Arguing that virtually almost all primary health centres (PHCs) in remote areas are still run by Ayush practitioners, Dash said the Government must allow practitioners of Indian systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) to practice allopathy.

“Many States like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have already allowed Ayush doctors to practice allopathy. So, we demand the State Government here to take steps to allow us to practice the same,” said Dash.
