India on Tuesday, as part of its user trial, again successfully test-fired indigenously-developed surface-to-air short-range Akash missile with a strike range of 25 km.
The test was carried out at 3.22 pm from launch Complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here.
The Air Force version of the missile hit a para-barrel target accurately, said a senior Defence officer, adding that this exercise of evaluation and practice was done by a newly-formed squadron of the IAF.
This was the second consecutive successful test after Monday’s similar test, and more tests would be conducted in future, said sources.
The missile, capable of carrying a warhead of 60 kg, also has the capability to target aircraft up to 30 km away. It is packed with a battery that can track and attack several targets simultaneously.
