The residents and the traders in and around Remuna market have threatened to embark on a road blockade on August 24 protesting a dilapidated road connecting Bampada to Balgopalpur. The road stretch of about 8.5 km, known as Bypass road, was completed about two years ago. However, it now bears innumerable potholes and carters. Since the road stretch has become extremely unsafe, all vehicles are passing through the main road of Remuna Golai.
The construction of the road was initiated in 2003 so as to provide an alternative road to all the industrial units in Balgopalpur and lessen the traffic to the road, connecting Remuna Golai to Remna market to FM University to the famous Remuna Khirochora Gopinath temple.
The road situation is not only causing inconvenience to the local commuters and all the vehicles of the industrial units located in Balgopalpur, but also causing serious problems to the emergency service vehicles like ambulances and fire tenders.“The bypass road is of Idco but it is taking hardly any initiative to repair the road. We have already ventilated our grievances to the district administration. All our appraisals have fallen in deaf ears. If nothing is materialized, the road would be picketed and market would be closed on August 24,” said a local resident. The road was constructed by the Idco during the tenure of former MlA Pradipta Panda in a phased manner. Private people had given land for construction of the road.
Idco Manager Sarbeswar Baral said, “A detailed project report has been sent for the repair of the road and in the meanwhile, we would carry out some patch works.”
