Students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, Veer Surendra Sai Ibnstitute of Meduical Science and Research, Burla and Cuttack-based SCB Dental College moved the apex court seeking a stay on the order of the Orissa High Court for admission of the Kalahandi students in the Government-run medical colleges till the matter is resolved. The court would hear the SlP on Tuesday, sources said.
On November 18, the Orissa High Court had asked the State Government to relocate 109 of the 124 Sardar Rajas medicos, who got admission on the basis of all-India ranks, to Government colleges and rest 15, who took admission against management quota, to private colleges.
The court on December 9 further directed the Government to complete registration, seat allotment and admission by December 23. The State Government announced a notification for admission and the relocation of the Kalahandi students in the three private and two Government-run institutions of the State.
According to the notification, 55 students of the private college would be absorbed in MKCG while 54 students would be absorbed in VIMSAR, Burla. Five students each would be accommodated in three private institutions, KIMS, SUM and HI-TECH.
The Government medical college students have been protesting the relocation decision for poor infrastructure and staff crunch in their colleges.
